Crate Seating... Yes, me too!

~ Crate Seat ~

I saw the crate seats on Pinterest (about a billion and a half of them) and thought they were so adorable!  I decided I could do that too to add a little something extra to my room!  This year I have a little more space than before and ended up {for the time} with 2, YES TWO, meeting areas!  I am so excited!

So I talked to my dad and he helped me measure and cut the boards for my crates I bought at Walmart.  My sister was in town visiting and she helped me (after many visits to Joann's) get black vinyl, thick ribbon, and poly-fill.  We laid down the fabric, put a layer of the fluff, placed the board, and stapled like crazy!  We used black cotton fabric to cover the bottom.  I wanted my seats to be durable, washable, and functional.  I can wipe them off, use the ribbon handles to lift the lid off, and store things inside.  I am so excited about how they turned out!  I only made 4, but they are perfect!

  1. Precious! And I absolutely love that you can still pull the seat covers off and store things underneath. Too good to be true. Too bad I'm out of money in my budget, otherwise I'd be all over it!

I'm new to blogging and am glad I found yours! Check mine out :)

    1. Thank you so much! I am sooo out of money too! I think it is a teacher trend for the beginning of every school year! Just so you have a reference, the plywood was $10 and I made 4 seats and 6 clipboards with 1/4 of the board and some scraps left. I bought the fabric for $16 and the puffiness for $6. Ribbon was $4. SO... Do I want to know? $36 for 4 seats but that is if all the wood went to them. I also didn't use all the ribbon. Where can we buy such cute seats for less than $9 each?

    1. I am so excited to be able to store things inside. I plan on using the reading corner for the fact fluency part of my math workshop. Inside the crates are all the fact fluency practice sheets, clipboards/pencils, and I plan on putting flash cards inside the fourth crate. The kids absolutely love the seating!
